Toronto, ON - 20 October 2017 – Canadian technology business, OMX (Offset Market Exchange Inc.) is proud to announce that Nicole Verkindt, has been named the National Winner of the 2017 Startup Canada Woman Entrepreneurship Award for exemplifying the spirit of Canadian entrepreneurship. Ms. Verkindt accepted the award at the Grand Finale ceremony last night in Ottawa, attended by leading Canadian investors, innovators and anchor company executives.
In her acceptance speech, Nicole Verkindt told the story of first meeting OMXs first angel investor, Rob Segal, who reminded her that "its not a question of "IF", only "WHEN" when it comes to digitization in all sectors". And while, he wasn’t quite sure about her socio-economic procurement world, he knew the sectors would innovate eventually and put his trust in her. The founder commented how far she had some since that initial meeting, thanks to so many people whom invested, and bought from the company. She then announced a partnership with WBE Canada to provide procurement opportunities to women-owned businesses. "We are a mission-driven company at OMX, and my dream is for the platform itself to connect large corporations to more diverse suppliers, including by providing women-owned businesses with procurement opportunities and to track the social and economic impacts to drive a bigger purpose and work with local stakeholders" said Nicole.
"Nicole is a true Canadian champion for entrepreneurship and I see no one more deserving of receiving this award," said Victoria Lennox, Co-Founder and CEO of Startup Canada. "She is an exceptional role model for all women wishing to start and scale businesses in Canada and that is why I am honoured to present her with the 2017 Woman Entrepreneur Award."
